2009 Charming Band Music Calls for the Expo
  The point of the one-year countdown to the Shanghai World Expo, centering the Expo, Clarion of the Expo—Shanghai International Band Festival 2009 is held in Yangpu District in Shanghai. Many activities, including Non-Professional Excellent Marching Band Display, the Forest Concert, Band Music Carnival, Chinese and Foreign Marching Band Show and Band Music Forum, are to be presented.
  During the opening ceremony, the united ceremonial wind band, composed of the Military Band of People’s Liberation Army of China, Marine Band and Second Missile Army Band, took the lead to appear on the stage. Six bands from Spain, Malaysia, Korea, the marching band of Branch of Beijing Chenjinglun High School and the marching band of Shanghai Kongjiang High School.went on the stage successively. Some played while marching, some were modern and vibrant and others were full of national traits. Both the student bands and the professional bands were praised and approved by Chinese and foreign counterparts skillful performances.
  The “One-Year Countdown to the Shanghai World Expo” Forest Concert was held in Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park. The Military Band of People’s Liberation Army and Marine Band performed together award the concert.
On the closing ceremony Yeungnam Folk Music Art Troupe from Korea brought the traditional Korean music. Kuala Lumpur Drum line Corps from Malaysia performed Floor Fever. The performance by the Military Band of People’s Liberation Army was the last to come. They showed . All the performance showed to the spectators the charm of band music. Band Music Forum took place in the meanwhile. Judges, monitors, conductors and leaders gathered together to discuss the development of wind music on the base of the display. Mr. Robert Elklund, executive director of the World Association of Marching Show Bands, Yu Hai, chairman of China Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and American marching show expert, Jon Steinwinter, expressed the Development and the Future of Marching Band in China and the Impression on the Marching Show Contest in China.
